OBJECTIVE:

To bridge the gap between traditional ways of delivering information and new, emerging technologies.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

For nearly eight years, I have been a reporter – first for The Associated Press and now for The News Journal, a Gannett newspaper in Wilmington, Del. My focus is to deliver information in a concise and effective manner. I can write news stories, publish them to the Internet and design graphics.

 

AWARDS

2000               Second place, Education writing, Maryland-Delaware-District of Columbia Press Association awards, for the five-part series “Neighborhood Schools: Solution or Illusion?” Published in Dec. 2000.

 

1998                First place, General News writing, Maryland-Delaware-District of Columbia Press Association awards, for “Finally, A Mother’s Love,” a look at the rising number of adoptions of Chinese baby girls in Delaware and how it affected one woman’s life.

 

EDUCATION

1996                Bachelor of Arts in Journalism, University of Maryland at College Park.

 

EMPLOYMENT

1998-now     Staff Reporter, The News Journal, Wilmington, Del. Duties include developing and maintaining working relationships with sources in three school districts, and developing and writing strong front-page stories with interesting photos and graphics.

 

1995-1998    Staff Reporter, The Associated Press (Baltimore, Buffalo, and Omaha, Neb.). Duties included generating, reporting and writing news stories for publication or broadcast and editing stories for publication or broadcast.

 

1996                Intern Reporter, The Washington Post. Wrote one to two stories per week – mostly features – for The Post’s Maryland Weekly section.

 

1995                Editorial Intern, American Journalism Review, a national magazine for journalists.

 

1994                Reporter, Capital News Service, a student-staffed wire service covering Maryland issues for 16 daily newspapers, including The Washington Post, The (Baltimore) Sun, and The Washington Times.

 

1993-1994    Editorial intern for Outlook, a weekly newspaper for faculty and staff at the University of Maryland at College Park.
