Buy Me A G5, Will Ya?
Others ask for donations via PayPal, I just want a G5! :: Just kidding, of course. I don't expect my dozens of faithful readers to rush and out plop down the $3,000 to get me a dual-2 Gigahertz G5. But hey, it's worth asking, right?
I came across a page today choc full of high-resolution pics someone took of their new G5. You can find it here. I was inspired and fired up Photoshop and its myriad filters (including the Flaming Pear set) and took them down to desktop scale (1280x1024) and made a set of 9 desktop pictures from them. You can download them here. Just be warned, it's stuffed, but it's a big file (about 7 Megabytes). Either way, it's well worth taking the journey through the high-res G5 pictures so you (or I) can covet what you can't afford. :-)

The United Mac Macworld NY 2003 Video Report Is In
Better late than never :: There's been a lot going on in Papa's life these days, kiddies. Sorry for the lack of posts! I took a new job awhile back and am finally moving to a new place over the next two weeks to get away from the hour-long commute (not that I don't enjoy the quality time with my iPod and Audible.com content, tee hee hee). My column for OSXFAQ.com also is taking up a lot of time. I'm also taking on a reviewing gig now for MacIssues Magazine. It's all part of my devious plan ...
I was able to carve out some time to sit down with Final Cut Pro finally and work on the footage from my trip to Macworld CreativePro in July. Go see the movie here, just be warned, the file is 35 megabytes in size and may not be worth it if you're surfing on a dial-up modem. But if you've got Broadband, check it out. Peter Jackson I'm not, but I had fun doing it! Don't worry, I'm thinking of making an abbreviated version at some point -- the movie is 15 minutes long!
While you're checking out movies, I found the coolest iMovie ever while surfing DotMacInfo recently. Check it out here. It's a flick all about the search for the elusive Nessie in Loch Ness, Scotland. Very entertaining, and very well done.
Did you see that Powerbook? :: Surfing Yahoo! News, I came across a picture from one of the news conferences on the release of the NASA Columbia report recently. Imagine my surprise when one of the guys in the crowd was cradling one of the gargantuan 17-inch Powerbooks in his lap! It's good to see some of the press seeing the light when it comes to which high-powered notebook does the job for them. Only, I don't think I'd call the 17-inch a notebook, really. More like one of those large, bound volumes you find in the back of a library somewhere.
Speaking of Powerbooks ... :: I'm selling mine! Yup, my beautiful 12-inch is already on the auction block over at eBay. Why, you might ask? Because I probably couldn't have afforded it in the first place, and the money is needed for the big move. So I couldn't justify having it and my high-powered G4 desktop at the same time when I needed the money -- especially since I mainly used it to check e-mail on my couch instead of in front of the big computer. It's a nice luxury, but not worth $1,700, especially when I need the money. It does pain me to see it go, however. It's a very sexy little laptop. I will be replacing it with a lower-powered model sometime later this fall, maybe an iBook or something. Let me if you've got a decent one you'd love to sell!
And finally ... :: According to reports on most of the rumor sites, the release of Panther is imminent. One of the cool changes noticed in some of the betas that floated around included a big Whoops! by Apple, in which they inadvertently revealed that the release of Apple-branded wireless bluetooth keyboards and mice also are imminent. I can't wait to replace my aging Pro Keyboard with something I can drag around the room with me!
